This is a CD that even with only 4 songs you can listen to on repeat. It has so many ear pleasing harmonies that I only wish I could hear when the songs are performed. The new version of "24 Hours" is a great follow-up to the original and takes on the newer sound that the rest of the CD shares. I've yet to hear the new first track "What About Me" but I've heard it live several times and I'm sure it is a great addition to the four songs, it's definitely something you will enjoy when it's stuck in your head. I've known Rebekka for a very long time and I am in absolute awe of the music she creates. She and Brian are both excellent musicians that I am completely envious of and am inspired by on a near daily basis.

There is within each of us a desire to be heard. It is this desire that defines the character of the human being. With so many outlets available to the youth of our generation, it is refreshing to hear the heartfelt sentiment of artists such as Rebekka Carol. To listen to music is an easy thing to do. To open oneself completely and be swallowed whole by an artists vision is a little more difficult. Rebekka’s soul wrenching “As Silent As You Are” offers the opportunity for even the most jaded critic to relinquish control and become lost in the intertwined melody and harmony lines. Few mainstream artists possess the ability to turn the heart inside out and allow the world to view what dwells within. It is a testimony to the steadfastness of her belief in her music that she is willing to take suffering and transform it to triumph through the medium of her music. Tracks such as “All That I Got” speak of a faith that is seldom displayed in a generation seemingly bent on self-destruction and devoid of emotion. It is enough to make even the hardest heart melt. Miss Carol speaks with a voice that is wise beyond her years but intensely vulnerable at the same time. In short, if you have the opportunity to see this young siren perform, do so. It will be an experience that is certain to lift the heart and free the spirit. In a time of change it is all but imperative to listen to the voice of the poets.

What more can be said? Rebekka Carol is one of the hottest new singer/songwriters coming out of Long Island. Well known to many local coffee shops and clubs, she modestly accepts praise from friends and fans. Do yourself a favor and check her out at one (or all) of her upcoming gigs.

Ive learned how to listen to music. Im so happy to finally say that. :) to be able to feel and appreciate what a person is feeling and experiencing, just by hearing it, is amazing to me......... Ive met few people in my life that have the sweet soulful determination (that you do) in life (your music) to go after a carrer in music and get so far so fast. Your ability to compose and portray your self though your music is incredible. I wish everybody could see you live. they dont know what they are missing. your friggin awesome. im jealous. keep it up!! only great things can come of it :)

Rebekka's songs are the kind that wind up playing over and over in your head all day long. She has passion and enthusiasm that is not seen in too many kids today. I wish her the best of luck in her career and hope to be one of the first to own a new demo... And by the way, Bekka, I hope to have a front row seat in the first big sellout! Keep up the great work!

Review from www.Indie-Music.com - December 19, 2001

Artist: Rebekka Carol
CD: Strangely Innocent
Home: Long Island, New York
Style: Folk/Rock
Quote: "A promising talent like this can’t help but explore and evolve".

By Jennifer Layton

Rebekka Carol has a haunting voice, echoing wisdom from years of seeing more than most people her age have seen. She fled her troubled home life when she was only sixteen and wandered the country, broke and without direction. For many runaway teens, the story ends somewhere on that road.

But Carol had musical gifts and had been playing guitar for a few years. She began writing songs about her experiences and playing wherever she could. The result of these efforts is her debut CD, Strangely Innocent. Now the 21-year-old is playing NYC clubs like The C Note and shopping for a label deal.

Strangely Innocent is a collection of folk/rock sung from the heart of an old soul. Her voice trembles with vulnerability in places, but those tremors are deceptive. She has emerged from her experiences with quiet triumph and the courage to give us glimpses into her past:

We're all wasted, a life too ordinary,
We'd climb a mountain to get high,
Aside the powerless people that run our lives...

The music ranges from the beautiful, flowing acoustic folk of "Life Too Ordinary" to the gathering storm clouds of the title track. She tells her stories, she examines her past, and she confronts old ghosts:

You told me you had lied when I was just a child,
You told me nothing's sacred,
And it wasn't your intention to be someone full of secrets.
..

If there is one drawback to the CD, it's that the songs need distinct personalities. They all have a similar sound. I'd like to hear her experiment with different styles, jump outside the box more. Brainstorm. But she has plenty of time for that. A promising talent like this can't help but explore and evolve.

Perhaps the most promising sign of all comes from the final track, "Love Has Taken Its Toll," which was recorded live in the studios of Connecticut's WPKN. From the emotional turmoil of her past, Carol has emerged with a CD that is now gaining radio airplay. Her story is a perfect illustration of how we are all given special gifts to help us survive the hard times. Thank goodness Rebekka Carol found hers.

Goodtimes Magazine - August 21-September 4, 2001

Rebekka Carol is an acoustic artist from the [South] Shore of Suffolk County.

At 21 years of age, she has created a CD of stunning beauty and maturity. Strangely Innocent, her debut CD, is destined to be one of the finest CD's of 2001.

The production of the CD is fairly straightforward, though not sparse. Mainly the arrangements consist of Carol's vocals, her acoustic guitar, some lead guitar by her partner Brian Lupo and some backing vocal tracks.

It's a textbook example of less being more - The musicianship is lovely but it never takes away from the main strengths of the CD, namely Carol's songwriting, and her beautiful voice.

Overall, Carol's performance on the CD brings to mind a young Joni Mitchell. It's not so much that her voice sounds like Joni Mitchel's (it's a little lower), or that her songs sound much like Joni Mitchell's songs. It's not even the picture of Carol on the inner sleeve, a young woman with long blonde hair and a guitar although the visual image just adds to the comparison. There's just somthing about the total package that reminds the listener of mitchell's artistry and her realness, on those early albums.

The best song on the CD is the first one, "24 Hours." Although the song is of medium speed, there's something driving and relentless about the beat, much like the rhythm of time itself. ("There's a lot of chances we must take, 24 hours in a day").

Although there are only a total of eight tracks on the CD, each one is worthwhile in its own way. Among the best are "Silent as You Are", a slow equisite ballad; the ominous sounding "You're So Different" which seems to be about a difficult relationship with a parent; and a somewhat sad song to a former love, "All That I Got". ("You only remember the bad times/but there's more to this/you have taken for granted....."). This is an excellent CD from a very exciting young artist. You can learn more about her, and about the CD, at her website, www.rebekkacarol.com.

The Inside Connection - August, 2001

Strangely Innocent is catchy and positive, with a sound based on Rebekka Carol's vocals, which combine a modern day Phoebe Snow feel, prominent on "Life Too Ordinary", with a sort of Alanis Morrisette take, which is especially evident on "You're so Different" and "Strangely Innocent." Don't get me wrong, Rebekka Carol's sound is original, and handling acoustic guitar along with vocals, she is both grippng and laid back. Accompianied by Brian Lupo on electric guitar, Strangely Innocent offers up songs in a refreshingly positive way without the poppish and cliché genre present. The CD wispily carries us from cut to cut on a bevy of tunes that lyrically enlist the the listener in a world of endless possibilities.

The music is definately viable in todays market, and with the gaines that today's woman have made going head to head with males, Carol has great potential, wthout a doubt.

Review from The Southampton Press - April 19, 2001
Front Page of Sunday's Arts and Living

"...The sweet melodies and acoustic guitar playing found on the "Strangely Innocent" CD and in Ms Carol's live performances seem far removed from what one might expect to hear as the result of living hand to mouth with no money, no prospects and no plan... The ability to see good despite deceptive appearances is captured succinctly on her title track, "Strangely Innocent." Demonstrating consistency that carries over from her live performances to the recorded songs, Ms Carol sings in a sweet, lyrical voice that is subtly infused with strength..."

Review from www.TheNightGuide.com - April, 2001

This is a most beautiful CD composed and performed by a young Long Island singer/songwriter whose music, lyrics and vocal talent are surprisingly mature. Like Jewel, Rebekka's ballads are smart, thoughtful and wise. Rebekka's voice is different- more like Annie Lennox. It's soothing yet intense. What stands out is Rebekka's unique phrasing- it's syncopated.

My favorite song on the CD is the catchy and energetic first track, "24 Hours (in a day)". It's appealing and new. The title track, "Strangely Innocent" has the energy of early Pat Benatar so does the next track, "Runaway". "Silent As You Are" is a very beautiful and haunting composition that builds up to a goose bump producing climax! All in all, the songs are very, very good and quite impressive for a debut CD. The last track, "Love Has Taken It's Toll" was recorded live at WPKN with Rebekka on guitar and vocals. This artist has her stuff together and the quality of her live performance is up there with her studio work.

Interestingly, when she was 16, Rebekka ran away from home with her boyfriend and traveled throughout the country with her guitar. Rebekka's maturity and wisdom are evident in her music. The CD is well produced and features excellent guitar accompaniment by Brian Lupo. Other instrumentation is performed by Dean Bohana of Rock Garden Studios.

I would recommend this CD to those who appreciate thoughtful, well composed ballads sung by a sweet voice that you don't get tired of. Rebekka can be found performing around Long Island's East End. Check her website for her calendar.

Check out www.rebekkacarol.com for more information and purchase her CD at her website or at www.cdpimp.com.

Rebekka Carol was the first performer last Thursday night. "This gives me a chance to play my original songs," she said to the crowd with a smile. She played alone, accompanied only by the deliberate strums of her black acoustic guitar, her strong smooth voice filling the cavernous old building.

Review from Todd Shea (www.toddshea.com)

REMEMBER the name Rebekka Carol. Rebekka is a 21 year old singer/songwriter with the kind of talent which can and should blossom into great success... she's a wiser-than-her-years younger sister to all of the great female artists who rose to the top because they had something REAL, creative, soulful and important to say to the world through their brilliant music. Though her style is quite unique, her music is reminiscent of amazing artists like Jewel, Sarah McLachlan, Natalie Umbruglia, Dido, etc. The fact that she's absolutely beautiful doesn't hurt her chances either...

How does Rebekka's music compare to the current prefabricated and unnaturally sweentened flavors of the moment? To anyone other than modern idiots who think and act like cave dweller wanna beez, there is no contest. With their shallow, prefab songs being little more than marketing tools for cola wars, rehashed excuses for the same dance steps we saw 15 years ago and overpriced vehicles for overblown video borefests, Rebekka's integrity and artistry puts their empty junk food jams to pitiful shame.

Long live the craft of songwriting, be it dead or alive, sleeping or.... thriving in the hearts and minds of the true artists - like Rebekka Carol.

Review from Long Island Entertainment

Songs like "24 Hours (in a day)" and "All That I Got" will show Rebekka to mentally be beyond her 21 years. Her music is as equally intense as it is smart and sweet, and her live performance of "Love Has Taken It's Toll" on the album's eighth track shows that she's lively as well. Somewhere between Sarah McLaughlin, Annie Lennox, Pat Benetar and Dido, she just radiates pure talent through her lyricism. Then again, her guitar playing isn't too shabby either. Sounds like she's using some very interesting tunings. A strong, smooth voice and an entertaining release like "Strangey Innocent" should get Rebekka Carol far, very far in fact.
